Whenever you are looking at the price of the product on Amazon.in, you might wonder if the price that you see on the webpage is genuine or you are being taken for a ride. The product may be genuine, but is the price reasonable ? That’s the question.

Even when the seller is Amazon itself, i.e Cloudtail India or whichever name Amazon sells by, there is a real chance that the price quoted by the seller is not reasonable. What happens is that Amazon and other sellers sometimes perk up the price, and sometimes drop the prices to unimaginable level. An example will clarify the issue further: A few days ago, i.e. on 27th January 2018, the price of Badminton racquet: ” Yonex Carbonex 8000 plus ” which was sold by a third party seller on Amazon.in was about Rs 2295. However, on 30th January, the price was dropped to Rs 580. That’s a reduction of about 75 % in the price in 4 days.

Here’s the screenshot of the drop in the price:  The first screenshot is for the date 27.01.2018:

I have tracked the price of the product using the chrome extension named “Keepa“. It’s a wonderful extension. It shows the price history right below the product. It also shows the price history if you hover your cursor over a product, when you’ve searched for a product and the page contains a lot of product.

Here’s a link to install Keepa: https://goo.gl/epoybw.

Don’t worry, it’s not a link to make you install some nasty useless software. If you still fear, then you can manually search for it in chrome extension and then install it from there. Here’s how you can do that: If you are using google chrome web browser, then goto settings( it’s the 3 dots, aligned vertically, at the upper right hand corner), then goto “More tools”, then “Extensions”, then a new page will open up, you need to scroll down till the end of the page, there you will find : “Get more extensions”. Click on it. It will open up the chrome web store. Here in the upper left hand corner, there’s a search bar. Search for Keepa, and install it.

Once you’ve done that, you are all set to learn about the price of the product, whether Amazon is charging you reasonably or is making a fool out of the customer. If you need Keepa to show you the price history while you are checking out a page containing a lot of products, then you’ll have to tinker around a little in the settings of Keepa. Here’s how you can do it: Goto “Extensions” as I have detailed above, then goto “Keepa- Amazon price tracker”, click on “Options”. Here a new page will open up which will show you some control options. Goto the 4th setting from the bottom. It is “Show price history graphs as overlays when hovering Amazon products -Yes No Setup“. You need to click on Yes.

Now you are all set to know about the price history of a product even while hovering the cursor over a product.

I hope this will help you to make wiser decision while purchasing a product.
